Ukraine may increase supplies of millet to 120 KMT in MY 2016/17

In the five months of the current MY 2016/17, Ukraine reduced export of sorghum. On the other hand, it increased supplies of other small grains such as millet and oats.

Thus, according to “ProAgro”, during the last July-November period, local exporters sold 46.1 KMT of millet to foreign buyers, which is almost a quarter more than in the previous period. Traditionally, about half of the total volume of Ukrainian millet export is sold to European countries. For example, since the beginning of MY 2016/17 three largest EU importers – Germany, Belgium and the UK – have bought almost 15 KMT of millet. At the same time, compared to the last season, Belgium increased its purchases by 5.1%, Germany – by 10.2% and the UK – by almost 90%.

Another large buyer of Ukrainian origin millet in the current season became Pakistan. If in the period July-November of MY 2015/16 there was only 1.5 KMT of millet shipped to the country, then in the same period in MY 2016/17 supplies increased more than three times – to 4.8 KMT. Consequently, it is the third position results among all importing countries and more than 10% of total exports.

Although, in 2016 Ukraine harvested less millet volume than a year earlier – about 185 KMT, due to stocks of the last season Ukraine is able to increase millet exports to a record high – 120 KMT in MY 2016/17.
