Ukraine has increased sugar production by 40% in MY 2016/17

Ukraine has produced 2 MMT of sugar in MY 2016/17, which is 40% more than in the previous season.

It has been reported by Economic Discussion Club.

According to the report, Ukraine has exported 409 KMT of sugar against 17 KMT in September-January of MY 2015/16. More than 30% of sugar exports (in value terms) were carried out to Sri Lanka, Georgia and Tunisia.

At the same time, as a year earlier, the import of sugar is practically absent.

Notably, that total domestic supply of sugar in the current marketing year is 2.2 MMT with domestic demand at the level of 1.6 MMT (taking into account stocks of the last season in amount of 213 KMT).

In September-January of the current marketing period, domestic sugar consumption has been estimated at 677 KMT.

It also reported that, given the stocks of sugar at the beginning of the marketing year and the domestic consumption in September-January, the estimated sugar stocks  are estimated at 1136 KMT (on February 1st, 2016)
