By the end of March 2017, Ukrainian farmers sowed 845 thousand ha (35% of the forecast) with early grain and leguminous crops.
This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to the report, the spring sowing campaign has already started in all regions of Ukraine.
In particular, as of the reporting date, farmers sowed 43 thousand ha of spring wheat (3% of the forecast); spring barley was sown on 578 thousand ha of land (33% of the forecast); oats – 42 thousand ha (20%) and peas – 183 thousand ha (66%).
It is noted that southern regions are among the leaders in sowing campaign, starting the campaign before any other regions. Thus, Mykolaiv region almost finished sowing of early grain crops – 102.8 thousand ha have been sown (96% of the planned). More than 100 thousand ha were also sowed in Zaporizhzhya (139.1 thousand ha) and Odessa (110.3 thousand ha) regions.
In addition, farmers almost completed fertillizing of winter grain on area of 6.8 million ha (95% of the plan). Winter rape was also fertilized on area of 825 thousand ha (94%), so we can conclude that process of fertilizing for winter crops is already at its final stage.
